Sloganistas

The anti slogan artists demonstrated oustide the courthouse Thursday night. They (like me) were scoffing at the irony of Bakersfield's slogan "Bakersfield: Life as it Should be."
One of the organizers noted our crime, poverty, worst air in the nation status and that we're a dumping ground for SoCal's sludge as just a few indications that this is not how life "should be" in any community.

But the artists (also promoting productions at the Empty Space theater) didn't want to be boorish and so dressed in costumes and pushed brooms and vaccuums around to bring home their point.

Good for them! Oh, and here's the paper's picture (doesn't show the vaccuums)
